Do we have Health Care or Disease Care System?

"The doctors are giving less medicine and doing more in the way of suggesting diet, exercise rules and preventive practices. Most people end up digging their grave with their teeth." Both of these quotes sound very contemporary, yet they were written in 1918 by Col. Wm. C. Hunter. In his classic book THINK he optimistically predicts that we will focus more in the future on prevention of disease. We have never gotten there. We have a disease care system not a health care system. A health care system should focus on keeping us from getting diseases and being healthy. Yet our government, our food industry, and our health care delivery system do little to change anything substantial and literally we are slaughtering our population prematurely.
Have you been to a public school recently and seen what they serve in the lunch room? No wonder so many of children in America are overweight or obese. Some school districts are finally wising up and throwing out soft drinks and high sugar drinks from their facilities. Check out movie Super Size Me for the scene of the teacher with the mayo jar of sugar on her desk. She says that was the average weekly intake of sugar per child before they got the soft drinks out or her school. That all plays a role, but the reality is this:

If your kids are overweight – it is your fault as the parent. Don’t try to argue with it. You can not win.

Take a look in the mirror. Here are the facts: “The factor that puts children at greatest risk of being overweight is having obese parents, according to a study in the Journal of Pediatrics. Kids are even getting Type II diabetes at an alarming rate. It used to be an adult situation. In fact you will remember it used to called “Adult-Onset” diabetes. Type II is basically self-induced and accounts for 95% of diabetes cases.
